Am I missing something?

Why is Bush being associated as an elephant and Kerry as a dog? If you look at the graphics behind the Electoral Vote numbers on CNN and SMH, you will see what I mean.

Well, there's no contest between the distinctiveness of an elephant versus the distinctiveness of a donkey. An elephant has an 8 FOOT LONG NOSE, can be 10 FEET TALL, and can weigh SEVERAL TONS. A donkey has big ears but an otherwise unremarkable physiogonomy. An elephant can tear down trees with its tusks, while a donkey has to slowly gnaw through them over the course of a day. An elephant can leave a mound of dung a foot and a half tall, donkeys only a couple inches.

What I'm saying is: Who would you rather have stampeding towards you? An elephant or a donkey?

I think that's what I was trying to say.

That's DONKEY, not dog. Only just discovered myself earlier this year, but seems that the Republican=Elephant and Democrat=Donkey connection has been around in American politics for a while.

A few years ago, I read that they have a similar system in India, where many of the people are illiterate. The (numerous) political parties compete over who is to be represented by what image - elephant, monkey, frangipani - and it makes a real difference to the way the vote is cast eventually.

Maybe we should apply the same system in Australia - the Liberal party could adopt the Numbat, Labor could use the Ocelot. Or some other arbitrary animal, it's all good.

At the TINA fest this year, I read out a poem of mine titled "Important Election Announcement". It began, "Good afternoon - I represent/The poodles of Australia...". Wasn't a comment on the fact that Australia is America's poodle - (we're NOT, and I'd never use such a tired old cliche anyway) - just a lighthearted comment on the relationship Aussies have with their pets...

What was the subject again?

Ah, now who said you could learn nuffink from having a blog? Elephant-God and Donkey-Dog. The Elephant to represent the Republican's interest in foreign policy, especially the sub-continent. The Donkey to represent the Democrat's affinity with those South of The Border.

It all makes total sense to me. The current world situation now seems much more friendly than it did yesterday. I think. Is that what I am meant to think? I need to be told. I, for one, welcome our new Elephant Overlords.
