Strangly enough, the origin of the phrase "Sleeping Not Thinking" came about when I explained to a friend that I had the art of sleeping while looking like I was still using my computer down pat. Having trained myself to be able to sleep with eyes open and right hand vaguely moving the mouse, I explained to coworkers that if I didn't respond, it was becasue I was deep in thought. Upon being nudged, I wake enough to utter "Check boundary conditions when debugging" or "Shit, now I'll have to start again from the beginning". This has kept the nudging rate to a low 0.1% for months now.
This pattern of auto-pilot responses designed to look like something useful seemed a good metaphor for the human condition, so I proceeded to start this blog. Soon, I will take the blog off auto-pilot and we'll see how far it goes before becoming a pile a wreckage. More of a pile of wreckage.
